PLASTRUCT'S

SHOWCASE
"HALL of FAME"

We thought it would be fun and informative to share with you some models that are being built by our various customers using assorted PLASTRUCT products. With many of you sending in photos of your finished projects, we decided to start a page to showcase these wonderful models. So, we invite you to continue sending in pictures of the models you've made using PLASTRUCT materials. We plan on "Showcasing" a couple of projects each month. All customers are welcome, from the professional modelmaker to the architect to the hobbyist. We have found that whether you are a pro or scratchbuilder, the models are sensational pieces of work and we would like to show off as wide a selection as possible. If you are interested in having your creative work displayed for all the web to see, kindly send us pictures of your model (email is preferred, but photos by mail are also welcome). Please provide some descriptional information about your model, a general list of Plastruct products used, along with your name and email address or phone number, so we can give the proper credits.

Our Plastruct Product Showcase Model for this month is a 1939 style Caboose scratchbuilt by Mr. Charles C. Purin of Lake, Michigan. The following photos of Mr. Purin's Caboose were featured in the September 2002 issue of Model Railroader Magazine.

This O scale caboose model represents one of the Milwaukee Road's homemade rib-side bay window cabooses of 1939.

Mr. Purin extols the many advantages of Styrene plastic as the preferred construction material for rolling stock and structures. He favors Plastruct styrene using numerous Plastruct products to create his Caboose model. His bill of materials includes Plastruct Styrene channels, zee bar, strips and five different size sheets. Mr. Purin also used Plastruct butyrate coated wire, tubing, ABS anges, channels, H-columns and tees.

These side fabrication diagrams give you an idea of how Plastruct styrene sheet was cut and assembled for the Caboose model.

Patience was required for the layering of styrene pieces to create the bays, horizontal ribs and letterboards for the caboose sides.
Brass wire was press-fit into drilled holes to
represent the Grab Irons on the caboose end.

We would like to sincerely thank Charles Purin for submitting his Caboose for our Showcase Page.
